My name is Maja. I’m an illustrator and animator based in Southern Europe, Slovenia.

Background

I grew up in a small village in Prlekija, surrounded by forests, vineyards and beautiful wheat fields. Growing up, my biggest artistic inspiration was my grandmother who loved to paint horses, sunflowers and landscapes with oils. She was the one that teached me the basics.

Since then my art is inspired by an ongoing dialogue with the world around me, searching for patterns, connections and meaning.

I also hold a Master’s degree in Media Communications which combines my interest in digital tools with the language of traditional art.

Artistic approach

My work combines digital techniques with watercolor-inspired textures, resulting in a soft, fluid aesthetic that bridges the emotional and the tangible. I often depict women as central figures surrounded by organic forms and dreamlike atmospheres.

This intersection between the ordinary and the imagined is where my practice feels most alive — a space where emotion meets composition, and where the familiar transforms into something quietly unexpected.

Exhibitions & media

  • Youth Center Ljutomer (2018) — my first exhibition, presenting a series of drawings that marked the beginning of my artistic journey.

  • Kalopsia (2021) — a digital exhibition inspired by fairy tales and the concept of kalopsia — seeing things as more beautiful than they are.

  • Ethereal Summer (2021) — a collection celebrating the warmth, lightness, and quiet magic of summer.

  • Group exhibition: Poetry on the city streets (2022)

  • VRTinec (2024) — a recent series exploring the garden as a metaphor for the inner self, a place of balance within surrounding vortex of chaos.
